Located in a small square in Mažeikiai’s Old Town, "The First School" is a granite sculpture over two meters high, depicting a woman embracing a child. The sculpture stands on a 16 cm high stone pedestal, emphasizing the mother’s significance in a child’s early life.
The artwork was created by Kęstutis Musteikis, a member of the Lithuanian Artists' Association, during the Seda Symposium in 1983. The artist’s initials are engraved on the back of the sculpture. "The First School" symbolizes the first lessons a child receives from their mother and surroundings.
