In front of the Henrikas Nagys Library in Mažeikiai stands Lithuania’s only monument "To Free Speech", created by sculptor Paulius Daujotas. It is his thirteenth artwork in the city, harmoniously combining stone and metal.
The monument consists of a 75 cm high granite pedestal and a 1.65 m tall alphabet rising upward. Visitors can touch it and even arrange letters to form a word. The front of the monument bears the words of Romualdas Granauskas: "The spirit of a nation lives in its language."
The monument was solemnly unveiled on February 15, 2016, to mark the renovation of the library. It is an important cultural landmark in Mažeikiai, serving as a reminder of the significance of freedom of speech.
