Also known as the Kaunas Garrison Church, this Neo-Byzantine masterpiece stands in the heart of Kaunas on Laisvės Avenue. Built between 1891 and 1895 during the Russian Empire, it was designed by architect Konstantin Limarenko as a key structure of the Kaunas Fortress. It features Lithuania's first 16.3-meter reinforced concrete dome – an impressive engineering feat.
Originally an Orthodox church for the military garrison, it reflects classic Orthodox architecture with its massiveness, symmetry, and ornate design. During Soviet times, it served as an art gallery. Today, it functions as a Catholic church and remains a powerful religious and architectural symbol of Kaunas, attracting visitors from around the world.
