The Simonas Daukantas Bridge, built in 1988, connects S. Daukanto Street with the Nemunas Island in Kaunas. It is a prime example of late modernist architecture, distinguished by its shiny metal railings, marble inlays, and decorative metal pipes. The bridge’s monumental feel is enhanced by wide stairs and original light fixtures. Its structure features tensioned cables, and the decorative supporting arch with Gedimino Pillars has become an important symbol of statehood, displayed even before Lithuania declared its independence in 1990.
