In 2023, Utena introduced the sculptural composition "Šalom Utyan" (Peace to Utena), created by architect Arūnas Želvys and heritage interpreter Karolina Želvė. Made of rusted metal, this unique piece symbolizes the historical relationship and cooperation between the Lithuanian and Jewish communities in Utena before World War II.
The composition also highlights the tragedy of the Holocaust, commemorating the destruction of Utena's once-vibrant Jewish community. The sculpture features the figure of a Jewish resident, pierced through, symbolizing the community's extinction.
Additionally, the piece includes a poem by Utena-born Avraom Chait, written in Yiddish and translated into Lithuanian by Yiddish literature researcher Goda Volbikė. This artwork not only reflects Utena's history but also encourages peace and cultural dialogue.
