St. John Paul II Church in Marijampolė is the newest sacred site in the city. This small wooden chapel stands out for its distinctive architecture – its walls are clad in oak boards, and the roof is covered with tiles. The chapel is located in the northern part of the Mokolai neighborhood and serves as a place of worship for the local faith community.
The chapel’s establishment in Marijampolė is a gift from German Catholics, made possible with the assistance of Clemens Rottinghaus, an honorary citizen of Marijampolė, and with the blessing of the local bishop. In the fall of 2014, after successful transportation and installation, the chapel was built and solemnly consecrated, providing the local community with a new sacred space.
