A solemn bust honoring Bishop Motiejus Valančius stands beside the Žemaičių Kalvarija parish house. Created by sculptor Jonas Jagėla, this monument pays tribute to the renowned Lithuanian cleric, writer, initiator of the book smuggling movement, and advocate for sobriety. Motiejus Valančius, who later became a priest and bishop, deepened his knowledge at the Žemaičių Kalvarija school from 1816 to 1821. His family members, including his grandparents and other close relatives, found their final resting place in the old Žemaičių Kalvarija cemetery. This monument not only reflects the importance of M. Valančius's personality and work but also symbolizes the enduring legacy he left for present and future generations.
