Painter and woodcraft master Leonardas Černiauskas was born in 1947 in Plungė. After graduating from high school, he studied for two years at the Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute. He obtained a degree in decorative painting with a specialization in artistic photography from the S. Žukas Art School. He worked as an artist in Kaunas. Since 1964, he has worked as a woodcarver and artist creating prototypes at the Plungė-based company "Minija." In 1989, he purchased the Platelių Manor watermill in the village of Babrungėnai. The artist renovated the mill and established his art gallery and creative workshop there. He carves sculptures of saints and other figures from wood, creates masks for the Užgavėnės festival, produces monumental works, and paints.
