The Samogitian Art Museum is located in Plungė, in the historic Duke Mykolas Oginski Palace, which was built at the end of the 19th century and is considered one of the most beautiful examples of historicist architecture from that period in Lithuania. The palace interior was designed between 1882 and 1885 and decorated by masters from Kazimieras Sommer's stucco workshop in Warsaw. The museum was officially opened in 1994 with the aim of preserving this unique 19th-century architectural monument and collecting works by Samogitian artists, as well as other art and historical exhibits. Its mission is

to gather, preserve, and promote the creative works of artists from Samogitia, as well as to showcase cultural heritage reflecting the history of Plungė Manor and the Oginski family. In addition to permanent exhibitions, the museum organizes various temporary exhibitions, concerts, and educational programs to promote Samogitia's cultural heritage and encourage public interest in the region’s history and art.
