The sculpture "Neringa," created by sculptor Juozas Ruzgas, was placed in the central square of Nida in the autumn of 2013. The artwork, which was donated to the city during the renovation of the area, was initially placed temporarily while a more suitable location was sought. However, it was never relocated. After the central square of Nida was reconstructed in the spring of 2014, the sculpture remained as the central compositional feature.
This bronze sculpture, several meters high, depicts a woman bathing in the waves of the sea and is named "Neringa." It represents the heroine Neringa from the legend explaining the origin of the Curonian Spit. Neringa, known for her extraordinary beauty and kind heart, often saved local fishermen from raging storms. Once, she filled her apron with sand and created the Curonian Spit, forming a calm harbor for the local fishermen.
