This sculpture commemorates the majestic elk, often considered the symbol of the forests in the Curonian Spit.
The significance of this animal to the residents and visitors of Neringa was confirmed in 2011 when the Neringa Municipality invited ideas to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Neringa. Many agreed that a sculpture of an elk should adorn Neringa. Since 2014, it has stood in the courtyard of the Curonian Spit National Park Directorate.
It is said that if you rub the elk's snout, you will surely see a real elk in the forest.
