This bronze sculpture, created by Klaudijus Pūdymas, was erected in 2018 to recreate a scene from the famous French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre's visit to Neringa in 1965. The moments of his visit were captured by photographer Antanas Sutkus. The image of a person walking through the dunes, battling with the sand and wind, has become an integral and globally recognizable part of J.-P. Sartre's image.
Looking at the figure, one recalls the famous words of J.-P. Sartre describing his experience in Neringa: "I feel like I am standing at the gates of paradise" and "For the first time, the clouds are beneath my feet."
