Jonas Rustemas was a prominent Lithuanian painter of the early 19th century, of French and Armenian (or Greek or Turkish) descent, born around 1762 in Constantinople. He was buried on June 21, 1835, in the Old Dūkštas Cemetery.

Rustemas mainly painted portraits of the nobility, university professors, doctors, intellectuals from Vilnius, and self-portraits.

His works are displayed in the Lithuanian Art Museum, the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum, and in museums in Warsaw, Kraków, Belarus, and Ukraine.

Rustemas was a professor at Vilnius University’s Drawing and Painting Department (1797–1832), becoming a professor in 1811 and head of the department in 1819.

He was buried in the church crypt, now in ruins. His grave is marked by a concrete obelisk with a metal finial, erected in 1974 by architect Viktoras Kunickas. The crypt is now covered by a roof.
