A Lourdes or Lourdes grotto is a sacred structure typically built in locations of apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, inspired by the site in Lourdes, France.
In Švedriškė, between Ažvinčiai and Ažvintaitis lakes, thanks to Father Alfredas Karišauskas, a chapel pillar with the sculpture "John Baptizes Jesus" was rebuilt. A statue of Mary was placed in a stone niche in the fence. The chapel pillar is made from a natural branched oak and is surrounded by a fence. Neither nails, nor an axe, nor a saw were used in its construction. According to Father A. Karišauskas, "This is the most beautiful place in the world." On August 18, 1991, the restored Lourdes was consecrated.
