The sculpture "Through the centuries" is a bronze symbol of Cēsis, created to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the town. This artwork by artist Matthias Jansons depicts a man with a lantern—representing time that flows relentlessly through history. The sculpture took over a year to complete: it was modeled in clay, cast in plaster in Latvia, and finally cast in bronze in Estonia. It serves as a reminder that time cannot be stopped, but it can be felt—in memories and dreams. The sculpture is located in the old town of Cēsis, near St. John’s Church.
