The sculpture “Struggle with a Centaur” is the graduation work of renowned Latvian sculptor Kārlis Jansons (1896–1969), created in 1925 upon completing the Art Academy. The artist donated the piece to the town of Cēsis, but for many years it existed only as a plaster model. In 1977, it was finally cast in bronze and initially placed in the square on Lielā Katrīna Street, later relocated to May Park. The dynamic composition, depicting a man’s battle with a mythological creature, symbolizes strength and spirit. Over time, it has become one of the most expressive and recognizable symbols of Cēsis.
