Established in 1993 as a branch of the Hugo Šojus Museum in Šilutė, the museum was initially housed in the Švėkšna Manor building. Since 2005, it has operated within the premises of the "Saulė" Gymnasium.

Visitors can explore four exhibitions showcasing the history of Švėkšna Manor, ethnography, archaeology, and the town’s past. One of the most valuable exhibits is the 17th-century Lithuanian Statute, reflecting the traditions of old Lithuanian script. Regularly updated displays ensure that the museum always offers something new.
