The Macikai Camps are a unique historical site in Lithuania, where Nazi and Soviet detention systems intersected. Thousands of people were held here under brutal conditions. In 1995, a dungeon-museum was established to reflect the history of the camp. The museum is located in the village of Macikai, 2 kilometers from Šilutė, on the grounds of a former manor.

The Macikai Camps are a unique historical and cultural memory site of significant national and international importance. This location stands out as one of the rare sites in Eastern and Central Europe where detention systems of both Nazi and Soviet totalitarian regimes coexisted. Thousands of people were confined under extreme conditions, with many facing a slow and torturous death. Today, the Macikai camp complex encompasses several key sites, including the camp grounds, the dungeon, prisoner graves, a bathhouse, and a potential barracks building. In 1995, under the initiative of the Šilutė Association of Deportees and Political Prisoners, a dungeon-museum was established on the Macikai camp grounds. Managed by the Šilutė Museum, the museum showcases the different stages of the camp's history. It is located 2 kilometers from Šilutė in the village of Macikai, on the left bank of the Šyša River, within the grounds of the former manor estate.
