In 1843, under the initiative of Count Pranciškus Plater, the Švėkšnalė River was dammed, and a watermill was constructed within the Vilkėnas Manor complex. After a flood in 1891, the mill was restored, and in 1936, a diesel engine was installed to ensure operation during water shortages. The watermill remained functional until 1964. In 1993, the manor was returned to the Plater family descendants, and by 1995, the mill underwent a major renovation. Today, the watermill has been reborn as a hotel and restaurant, inviting visitors to experience the historic heritage of Vilkėnas Manor.

The Vilkėnas Manor Watermill is a significant historical site that reflects the history of the Švėkšna region. In 1843, Count Pranciškus Plater dammed the Švėkšnalė River and built a watermill that became an integral part of the Vilkėnas Manor estate. In 1891, a flood damaged the dam, but the mill was successfully restored and resumed its operation. In 1936, advancements in technology brought a diesel engine to the mill, allowing it to operate even during periods of water scarcity. The watermill continued its operations
until 1964 when its activities ceased. In 1993, the Vilkėnas Manor complex was returned to the Plater family descendants, marking a new chapter for the mill. A comprehensive renovation was completed in 1995, transforming the historic building into a site for tourism. Today, the Vilkėnas Manor Watermill welcomes guests as a hotel and restaurant, combining authentic historical surroundings with modern comfort. It is one of the most fascinating attractions in the Švėkšna region, perfect for both leisure and cultural tourism.
