A unique pedestrian bridge, spanning over the street, adds distinctive charm to the Church of St. James the Apostle in Švėkšna and the entire town. This viaduct connects the churchyard with the adjacent park and was built around 1885, nearly 20 years before the church itself. Its decorative details, like the churchyard’s masonry, are in the Neo-Gothic style, which was popular in architecture at the time.
The viaduct not only links two significant landmarks but is also an integral part of Švėkšna’s architectural heritage, valued for its exceptional design and historical significance. It has become such an iconic symbol of the town that its image was incorporated into the design of Švėkšna’s coat of arms.
