Laivių Hillfort, also known as Pilale, is located at the impressive confluence of the Salanto and Bubino rivers. Dated to the 1st millennium – 13th century, it is safely hidden among the trees of a deciduous forest. It is believed that in ancient times, the Salanto River was deep and served as a route for trading and warships. It is said that a tall oak tree with a long branch used for unloading cargo once grew near the hillfort, giving rise to the name "Laiviai."

The legend also claims that inside the hillfort lay a sunken manor, with treasures hidden within, accessible only through underground tunnels. These stories attracted treasure hunters in the early 20th century, leaving large holes in the hillfort's plateau.

The surrounding area is rich in other valuable sites: about 200 meters to the southeast stands a stone known as Laumės Kūlis, and 350 meters away, on the other side of Bubinas, is the Laivių cemetery.
