Ryklės Hill, a protected cultural value (unique code - 28183; previous code - M250), is an important historical site and attraction located in the village of Šakiai, Skuodas district. This impressive hill, maintaining an irregular triangular shape and stretching in a north-south direction, offers a picturesque view of the town, attracting visitors with its mystique and legend-entwined past. Ryklės Hill is a popular location for walks, events, and gatherings. It is also a symbolic place steeped in ancient mythology. Legend has it that there once was a church here that sank into the hill, and as people watched this phenomenon, they named the hill "Ryklės" (Throat). It is said that if one climbs here and presses an ear to the ground, one can hear the sound of bells ringing through the silence. Moreover, the coat of arms of Šakiai depicts the blooms of mountain ash that grow abundantly on the slopes of this hill, symbolizing the uniqueness and natural beauty of the location.
