The battle that occurred in 1259 near what is now Skuodas between the Samogitians and the forces of the Livonian Order became a significant event in Samogitian history. The Kuldīga Commander, Bernhard von Haren, attempting to stop the Samogitians returning with their loot, faced serious resistance near Skuodas and suffered a crushing defeat. Following this victory, the Samogitians strengthened their resistance against the Order, and a year later, in 1260, they secured an even greater victory at the Battle of Durbe. The site of the Skuodas battle is marked by three roofed pillars and an oak grove, established by the care of local residents.

The Battle of Skuodas in 1259 is one of the most important in Samogitian history, maintaining its significance to this day. The battle took place near the current town of Skuodas, around the village of Luknė, where the Samogitians successfully resisted the forces led by the Livonian Order. The Kuldīga Commander, Bernhard von Haren, trying to stop the returning Samogitians, was completely defeated in the battle, losing not only soldiers but also prestige. This victory gave the Samogitians further strength, and a year later they won an even more significant victory at the Battle of Durbe. Today, the site of the Battle of Skuodas is marked by three roofed pillars crafted by folk artists and a symbolic oak grove, installed to commemorate the Samogitians' struggle for their freedom.
