On February 6, 1951, in the Bestraigiškės forest, a tragic battle took place near the former Šarūnas battalion headquarters, resulting in the deaths of several Dainava region partisans. The attack followed a betrayal when agents Olcha, Klevas, and Bijūnas alerted the MGB Internal Troops' 34th Rifle Regiment, 2nd Battalion, to the partisans' location.
Among the fallen were Juozas Jurelionis-Sakalas, Šarūnas battalion commander and deputy head of intelligence in Dainava, Pranas Majauskas-Vanagėlis, commander of the 3rd company of the A. Juozapavičius battalion, and Pranas Celevičius-Berželis, leader of the 3rd group in the same company. Other casualties included Vaclovas Pledys-Slapukas, Vytautas Vaivada-Garsas, Antanas Vailionis-Tėvas, who died in a hospital, and Juozas Žilionis-Strazdas. Partisan Juozas Žukas-Gulbinas was captured and imprisoned.
