On September 27, 1951, an MGB operation took place in the Bestraigiškės forest, involving a recruited former adjutant of the Šarūnas battalion, Bronius Saveikis-Klajūnas. This operation, carried out using a group of agents posing as "Polish partisans," had serious consequences for the Dainava district. During the battles, Dainava district commander Juozas Gegužis-Diemedis, Šarūnas battalion commander Bronius Šalaševičius-Žilvitis, and his adjutant Gediminas Urmanavičius-Pavasaris were killed. Partisans from the Mindaugas battalion, Stasys Krukonis-Žvaigždikis, Algirdas Salinis-Skirmantas, and a partisan from the Juozapavičius battalion, Bolius Vailionis-Narsuolis, also lost their lives. Juozas Karpavičius-Medelis was injured and captured. This site is significant for tourists wishing to gain a deeper understanding of the struggles and history of the Lithuanian partisans.
