In Kapčiamiestis, Mikalojus Oginskis established a public chapel in 1724, which was later mentioned as a parish in 1744. In the second half of the 18th century, this area became a parish center, and since 1777, a parish school has been operating here. In 1900, Father M. Guoga was appointed to Kapčiamiestis and began holding services in the Lithuanian language, contributing to the cultivation of local culture. In 1907, a branch of the "Žiburio" society was established, led by Father Juozas Bridžius, who founded a library-reading room. Unfortunately, the church burned down in 1941, and a temporary place of worship was set up. On the initiative of Pastor Aleksandras Labanauskas, a new church was built in 1956, measuring 31 meters in length and 11.6 meters in width. Initially modest, this church gradually became adorned and improved, incorporating elements of folk art. It is now regarded as an intriguing work of local craftsmen and is valued by both the local community and tourists.
