The Site of the Battles of Lithuanian Partisans (Paserninkų Village)

On December 21, 1945, in Paserninkai village, near the Majauskai homestead and a road intersection, a unit of partisans from the A. Juozapavičius group of the Dainava district's Šarūnas battalion, led by Antanas Grušauskas-Siaubo, engaged with NKVD forces. Seven Chekists were killed in the fighting, including Taranovas, the deputy head of the Seirijai NKVD department, and the officer Aleksa. After the battle, the partisans captured three machine guns, two automatic rifles, two rifles, and an NKVD seal, retreating without any losses.
