Location of the Battles and Death of Lithuanian Partisans Antanas Šimoniūtis-Ežys and Vincas Stučka-Briedis

On January 15, 1947, in the Lazdijai district, a battle took place in a former hideout between the MGB forces and partisans from the Dainava district's Šarūnas battalion, representing the Mindaugas region. In this location, fighters from the 2nd squad lost their lives: Vincas Stučka (Briedis), from Galstai village, and Antanas Šimoniūtis (Ežys), who also lived in Galstai village. This site holds significance in the history of the Lazdijai district as part of the heritage of partisan struggles, inviting visitors to learn about the history of Lithuania's fight for freedom.
