On June 2, 1946, a battle took place at the crossroads of the Bestraigiškiai, Rusoniai, and Vainiūnai roads, during which partisans Aleksandras Maskeliūnas-Strazdas and squad leader Pranas Vaivada-Milžinas of the Dainava district's Šarūnas battalion, Mindaugas group, were killed. During the same clash, Bronius Saveikis-Klajūnas was injured but managed to escape. The bodies of the fallen partisans were desecrated in the square of Seirijai town, serving as a grim reminder of the brutality of the Soviet regime at that time and the fighters' sacrifice for Lithuania's freedom.
