In 1928, the Utena "Pavasarininkai" (Springtime Youth Organization) erected an ornate cross carved by artist Adolfas Ivanauskas at the intersection of Bažnyčios and Kęstučio streets. During the Soviet era, the cross was destroyed, and the wood was used to heat the city’s public bathhouse. Today, a new cross stands in the same location, erected to commemorate the centenary of the restoration of the Lithuanian state.
