In 2014, an exceptional memorial was erected along the A14 road from Vilnius to Utena, dedicated to honoring the partisan Antanas Kraujelis, who is regarded as the last partisan of Aukštaitija. This commemorative sign-arrow points the way to the location in Papiškiai village where the partisan hid and was killed during a KGB-organized military operation in 1965. The monument was created by the renowned sculptor Vladas Urbanavičius, a laureate of the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize.
The homestead of Antanas and Ona Pinkevičiai, where Antanas Kraujelis hid from 1960 until his tragic death, is listed in the Register of Cultural Heritage. A monument has also been erected at this historic site to honor the partisans' struggle for Lithuania's freedom.
