The Germantas Landscape Reserve, covering an area of 924 hectares, is one of the first reserves established in Lithuania. Founded on September 27, 1960, its purpose is to preserve the unique landscape of the Central Samogitian Highlands, with its lakes, forests, streams, and marshes. The reserve is known for its impressive natural diversity, including the lakes Germantas, Ilgis, Durbinis, and others, as well as the Gelžupis and Germantupis streams. Notable trees, such as a three-trunked black alder and a massive spruce, can also be found in the area.
