The Šilavotas "Davatkynas" is a unique cultural heritage site located on the scenic Trakelis slope, just 0.7 km from Šilavotas. This exceptional monastery existed for over a century and served as the home for 14 pious women known as "davatkėlės." They voluntarily withdrew from worldly noise, lived modestly, and dedicated themselves to numerous good deeds for the parish. The "davatkėlės" cared for the sick, supported the needy, assisted the Church, and attended Holy Mass daily.
The founder of this monastery, Marijona Dabrišiūtė, settled in the "Davatkynas" around 1895, and later, other women joined her. Tiny houses were built
here where the "davatkėlės" not only prayed but also taught writing, and possibly operated a primary school. Despite life’s hardships and Soviet persecution, the women persevered—one was even prosecuted for religious activities, and during the post-war period, they hid neighbors who had escaped deportation.
Today, the "Davatkynas" is a branch of the Prienai Local History Museum. Since 2007, it has hosted various events, including painting workshops organized by artist A. Vilpišauskas, which have become a tradition. The history and warmth of the "Davatkynas" attract visitors not only from Lithuania but also from abroad.
