The church in Biržai has been mentioned since 1500, but its exact location and appearance remain unknown. Wooden churches that once stood between the Apaščia and Agluona rivers either deteriorated over time or were burned down. In 1861, Count Jonas Tiškevičius built the present Church of St. John the Baptist based on a design by architect Tomas Tišeckis, blending Baroque and Classicism elements. Parish priest Juozas Rimkevičius contributed significantly to the church's decoration.
The church has a hall-type, rectangular layout with two towers reaching 43 meters in height. Inside, it features three naves, pillars, cross vaults, and a Neo-Baroque interior. The coats of arms of the Tiškevičius family and the town of Biržai can be seen within.
Count Jonas Tiškevičius and his family members are buried in the church's crypt, while a memorial plaque at the entrance honors the benefactor’s legacy.
