Monument to Teacher Kazys Klimavičius

On Pulko Street, near the Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas Gymnasium, stands a modest yet meaningful monument to teacher Kazys Klimavičius – the first principal of Alytus Gymnasium and one of the pioneers of education in the city. The monument was erected in 1989, created by sculptor L. Pivoriūnas and architect R. Buivydas. The bronze sculpture depicts the teacher holding a textbook – a symbol not only of knowledge but also of the idea he passed on to younger generations. The monument’s three-tiered pedestal allegorically represents Klimavičius’s life and career steps – from teacher to educational light in Alytus. The sculpture subtly conveys the personality’s spirituality, humility, and dedication.
