The memorial “The Silent Bell,” located in Alytus Resort Park, is a powerful symbol of the nation’s suffering and struggle for freedom. Created by sculptor Stasys Žirgulis and architect Leonas Adomkus, the monument honors political prisoners, deportees, Dainava district partisans, and participants of the June Uprising in 1941. The bell here holds deep meaning – from once a herald of freedom to a symbol of a silenced yet unforgotten national spirit. The granite base, adorned with Vytis symbols and inscriptions, invites reflection: “He who does not defend freedom is unworthy of it.” This is a place where history speaks softly, yet powerfully – urging remembrance, respect, and hope for the future.
