The Monument to the Wolf Children

The Wolf Children refers to the children from East Prussia who, in the aftermath of World War II, sought refuge in Lithuania, fleeing hunger and the horrors of war. Some were taken in by Lithuanian families, while others later moved to Germany. Unfortunately, many of them died from diseases and starvation. In 2022, to commemorate the Day of the Genocide of Minor Lithuania, a monument was unveiled near the Šlažai Bridge to honor these children. The idea for the sculpture was created by Liudas Puškorius, the artist was Kęstutis Keparutis, and historians Rūta Matimaitytė and Dr. Christopher Spatz contributed to the text.
