The monument to Juozas Balčikonis is a significant cultural landmark dedicated to honoring the prominent Lithuanian linguist, translator, lexicographer, and professor, Juozas Balčikonis (1885-1969). This figure left a profound mark on the development of Lithuanian education and language. After graduating from Panevėžys Real Gymnasium in 1906, Balčikonis became the director of Panevėžys Boys' Gymnasium (1918-1920) and the head of the Panevėžys Teachers' Seminary (1920-1924).

In recognition of his contributions, a monument was erected in 1996, initiated by the Panevėžys branch of the Lithuanian Language Society, and sculpted by Algimantas Vytėnas. In the summer of 2024, the monument’s pedestal was restored, enhancing its aesthetic and historical value. The monument has become an important site to visit in Panevėžys, serving as a reminder of Balčikonis’ achievements in Lithuanian language and education.
