Monument to Poet Joseph Brodsky

In Palanga, near J. Basanavičius Street, stands a wooden bridge over the Rąžė River, dedicated to the memory of Nobel Prize laureate, poet Joseph Brodsky. The bridge is adorned with an informational plaque and commemorative signs, created by sculptor Mindaugas Šnipas. Brodsky, who visited Palanga in 1966 and 1968, wrote poems that immortalize the resort's landscapes. His work "Lithuanian Divertissement" is particularly notable, featuring a line dedicated to Palanga.
Born in Leningrad in 1940, Brodsky moved to the USA in 1972, where he became a guest professor and received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1987. The poet passed away in 1996 and was buried in the Venice cemetery.
