In the heart of the Salantai Manor Park stands a centuries-old chestnut tree – the thickest living specimen of its kind in Lithuania. Likely planted in the 19th century, this impressive tree remains vibrant, delighting visitors in spring with lush green branches and an abundance of blossoms, and rewarding them in autumn with fruit that carries the scent of fall.
The trunk of the chestnut measures 4.8 meters in circumference, and its height reaches an impressive 28 meters. This ancient tree has undoubtedly witnessed the golden era of the manor, when the park was adorned with alleys, flowerbeds, and other trees, some of which now exist only in history. Descending into the valley of the Salantai Manor Park, this natural monument awaits all who wish to experience the historical spirit of the park.
