The village of Sauseriai in the Kretinga district is named in honor of Jonas Sauseris, a volunteer soldier. Born in this area, a monument now stands to commemorate his legacy. Once a farmhand at the Grabšyčiai Manor, Sauseris chose to serve in the Lithuanian Volunteer Army and became a junior sergeant in the King Mindaugas Infantry Regiment. His bravery stood out during battles near Širvintos against Polish forces, where he lost his life in 1920.
Later, the manor lands were distributed to farmhands and volunteer soldiers, who named the village after their fallen comrade as a tribute to his memory. The monument to Jonas Sauseris was erected at the initiative of his family, symbolizing the heroism and sacrifice of an ordinary man in the struggle for freedom.
