The Tamožinė Oak in the Kretinga district is not only an impressive natural monument but also a place steeped in legends. This mighty tree, standing 31 meters tall with a circumference of 4.64 meters, is estimated to be around 200 years old. However, it is not its size but the mysterious stories surrounding it that make it unique. According to local lore, the oak was once haunted, storms would arise around it, and it was believed to be a gathering place for devils. Unmarried women were warned they would be taken to the oak and left to the foxes.
The oak stands near the old "French Road," which, as legends claim, was traversed by Napoleon's army in the 19th century. This site attracts not only history and nature enthusiasts but also those intrigued by mystical and legendary places.
