In 1989, an impressive monument was erected in Salantai to honor the sufferings of the Lithuanian people during 1941–1952. This symbolic creation was crafted by stone sculptor Vilius Orvidas, who that same year became a member of the Order of Friars Minor, taking the name Brother Gabriel. The construction of the monument was supported by the Salantai Support Group of the Lithuanian Reform Movement (Sąjūdis).
The monument not only reflects the painful history of Lithuania but also symbolizes strength, faith, and the nation's struggle for freedom. It stands as a notable landmark, reminding visitors of the resistance era and the sacrifices made by the people.
