Tūbausiai St. Andrew the Apostle Church

Driving along the road to the village of Tūbausiai, amidst wide fields, you unexpectedly encounter the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle. Built in 1928 on the initiative of the Franciscan friars, the church was originally made of wood. The current brick structure was erected under unusual circumstances – in 1940, when the Russian army began building bunkers in the area during the occupation, the plans were not fully realized. The construction materials intended for the bunkers were instead used for the reconstruction of the church. Despite the difficulties of the war years, the new church was built and even gained a special celebration – the Feast of St. Henry.
