In 1995, an oak grove was planted near the residence of Bishop Motiejus Valančius to commemorate the 200th anniversary of this notable clergyman’s birth. The grove of oaks symbolizes the bishop's work and contribution to Lithuanian history. In 2001, a monument designed by sculptor Kęstutis Balčiūnas, with architectural planning by Edmundas Giedrimas, was erected at the center of the oak grove. The initiative for the monument's construction was led by Stasys Vaičius.
This memorial complex not only reminds us of Motiejus Valančius' importance to Lithuanian culture and spiritual development, but also invites visitors to pause for a moment of tranquility. It is a place where one can more deeply appreciate the significance of history and the bishop's legacy.
