After the 1863 uprising, when Lithuania tried to regain its freedom from Tsarist Russia, Russian settler families were settled in some areas. One such village is Gegabrasta, where an Orthodox community was established. This community founded a school, set up a cemetery, and built a wooden church at the end of the 19th century. This church, painted bright yellow with green domes, stands out for its expressiveness and the tranquility it exudes, surrounded by pine forests. Although the original Russian community in Gegabrasta village is no longer there, the church is still used for religious purposes. Every year in May, religious services are held here, attracting believers from all over the Panevėžys region.
