The memorial for the Joniškėlis Death Battalion commemorates the bravery and sacrifice for Lithuanian freedom in the 20th century. In 1919, local men united to defend Northern Lithuania against Soviet Russian forces. The monument, depicting an artillery gun and erected on the grave of Lieutenant Jonas Stapulionis, who fell in battle, in 1935, serves as a symbol of respect and remembrance. The names of volunteers from the Joniškėlis district are engraved on the memorial plaques.

The memorial also honors partisans from the Joniškėlis region who fought for independence from Soviet occupation between 1944 and 1953. Many of them perished in the battle against NKVD units in Uniūnai village on February 23, 1946. This memorial not only pays tribute to the heroes of the past but also educates present generations about the unyielding desire for freedom and patriotism.
