In Rokiškis, the legacy of the Counts Tyzenhaus, significant creators and patrons of the city, is commemorated. Architects Gintaras Čaikauskas and local Faustas Lasys, winners of a design competition, created an avant-garde architecture monument "Legend," symbolizing the close connection between the past and present. This work is based on the old legend of a tunnel connecting Rokiškis Manor to the church—a story that continues to captivate visitors.
The monument, located in the axis of the city's old town layout, resembles an elevated triangular slab, like an opened book, whose shapes visually replicate the spire of the church tower. An installation of the tunnel under glass and mirrors creates an optical infinity effect, emphasizing the mystery of the legend. The floor of the monument is mirrored—visitors
can see not only information about the Tyzenhaus family but also their reflection, thus personalizing the connection between history and the present.
Mayor of Rokiškis district Ramūnas Godeliauskas emphasized that this monument is a long-awaited tribute to the Tyzenhaus family, who contributed to the formation of the city's cultural heritage. The project is also the result of the long-term activity of the community organization "Tyzenhaus Legacy."
Architect G. Čaikauskas expressed his pleasure that Rokiškis embraced the challenge to create a modern monument, while F. Lasys highlighted that returning to his native region with such a work was an incomparable feeling. The monument invites visitors to touch the history of Rokiškis and simultaneously participate in shaping the city's future.
