Juozas Neimontas (1875–1963) was one of the first Lithuanian musicians and choir conductors, who actively contributed to the promotion of Lithuanian music by organizing choirs and concerts during challenging times for Lithuania. He harmonized folk songs, promoted national culture, and also distributed banned Lithuanian publications. His harmonized song “Pasisėjau žalią rūtą” ("I Planted Green Rue") became widely popular. In 1991, a monument was erected in his memory near St. George’s Church, and a commemorative composition was placed at the site of his former home.
