Veisiejai is a picturesque town located on a peninsula surrounded by Lake Ančia. The town’s origins trace back to the time of King Mindaugas, first mentioned in 1253. The historical center of Veisiejai is considered an urban monument, preserving the street network, the 18th–19th-century square plan, old buildings, and town panoramas with the natural surroundings. The town’s architecture features a linear layout with elements of Baroque and Classicism. The impressive street network is adapted to the uneven terrain, and the central area is filled with enclosed views and dead-ends. In the central square stands a towerless church built in 1817—a monument of architecture reflecting Baroque and Classical forms.
